Hawk Watch Report 2012

Hello All, I write this letter on a day where hawkwatching, well birdwatching in general is far from the mind considering the forecasted temperature is in the mid-90’s with a heat index over triple digits Fahrenheit. Perfect day to recall the wonderful days last fall during the 2012 count! It has been a little over [...]

Well, it finally happened, just before the rain started. The Henry Keller Kurtz memorial bench was dedicated. The local Kurtzes all turned up, with all sorts of goodies for lunch. They were setting up the picnic tables under the trees as I arrived. At 11:00 AM we gathered on the Militia Hill hawk watch deck [...]

Hawk Watch Report 2007 – 20th Anniversary

On September 1, the first day of this year’s hawkwatch, 48 people turned up, as well as one Bald Eagle, four Sharp-shinned Hawks, three Cooper’s Hawks, two Broad-winged Hawks and one American Kestrel. This was a respectable, if not noteworthy, assortment and number of migrating raptors. But the best way to describe this first week [...]
